Question by mari m: What is your favorite low carb vegetarian recipe?
Preferably a main dish and not a salad or side dish.

Best answer:

Answer by Ami P
Hi,
I don’t do low carb, but here are some things I like that may work for you

Mushroom Parmesan :

http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,1977,FOOD_9936_33523,00.html

——————————
Here are some ideas. I don’t use alot of recipes, but these are easy and there are many recipes for the cauli rice all over the net : )

Chicken Parm – Quorn naked cutlets or other chik’n sub with no sugar added marinara, mozzerella and parm. Bake at 350 until cheese bubbles and begins to brown. Serve with Italian flat green beans and cauliflower “rice”

Beef and broccoli stir fry: Morningstar Farms “steak” strips, broccoli, onions, red bell, orange bell and mushrooms with sugar free teriyaki sauce on cauliflower “fried rice” topped with scallions and cashews, peanuts or almonds. (use veggie stock for the “rice”)

Taco salad: seasoned Boca crumbles, black soy beans (drained/rinsed), shredded lettuce, cheese, guacamole, salsa, and sour cream, scallions, black olives.

If you are looking for good Low Carb Vegetarian cookbooks, get the ones by Celia Brooks Brown or Rose Elliott, they are the only ones that actually follow the rules.

Anyone have any favorite strategies for counteracting PETA’s terrorism?

Best answer:

Answer by Vet Tech
Haha, nope. Actually, I am not a big fan of eating meat. I am not a vegetarian by any means, but I try to stay away from red meat as much as I can.

My favorite strategy for counteracting PETA would be NOT selecting euthanasia for every dog we get into rescue. We exhaust all our resources to rehabilitate and rehome dogs. If it was up to PETA every single dog we own would be euthanized.

I HATE PETA.

Question by xFreshx To Death: What’s a good recipe for gravy w/ soy or some other alternative to meat?
I always make my gravy w/ sweet Italian sausage and mostly lean ground beef, but I really want to make it meatless.

I’ve tried a handful of soy recipes and a sundry of soy meats and it just doesn’t taste the same.

I’m open to any and all suggestions and recipe ideas.

I always made my gravy w/ sweet Italian sausage and ground beef. I’ve tried a handful of soy recipes and a sundry of soy meats and it just doesn’t taste the same.
I meant Italian gravy aka. tomato sauce. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
Off the top of my head I also use:
-tomato paste
-crushed tomatoes
-a lot of garlic
-a little fennel
-a little water so it’s not too thick
-a little less milk(soy when available) than water
-Locatelli Romano cheese
-sugar
-salt

For the meatballs:
-a lot of garlic
-eggs
-a little milk(soy when available)
-Italian breadcrumbs
-a touch of salt
-a touch of sugar

I cook the meat IN the gravy.

Best answer:

Answer by Chef Bette
Tofuky makes a sweet Italian sausage out of soy and Lightlife makes Gimme Lean Gound Beef out of Soy and frankly they are both quite tasty.
At http://www.your-vegetarian-kitchen.com/home
you’ll find excellent recipes for sauces of many varieties.

Question by ♥♡♪♫☆♥♡♪♫☆: What vegetarian food should I but when I go grocery shopping?
So I’m wanting to eat healthier and a go vegetarian.

So I need some suggestions on what all I should buy
when I go shopping this week..?

If you are a vegetarian or vegan what do you put on your grocery list (= ?

Best answer:

Answer by jenny
My newest favorite soy product is Soyrizzo. It’s just like Churizzo but vegan. It has 60% less fat than churizzo and tastes great! I found it at Stater Bros. in the produce section.

You should also look into morning star meatless products. The corndogs are so good that my meat eating sister eats them all the time. Also try the chick patties :)

Morning star doesn’t have the best veggie burgers, so try the Garderburger. It’s much better and is very healthy. It has cheese though, so it isn’t vegan.

You can find the gardenburger and morning star products in the frozen food aisles of almost any grocery store.

Congratulations! Good luck!

I need some new stuff. I have 2 young kids who will eat almost anything but still are kids so don’t prefer expansive preparations. I just am tired of the same of recipe box I have been using for 8+ years. Need to mix things up a bit, maybe add some easy asian dishes or more beans and meatless dishes. Please share some of your favorite family recipes or your favorite recipe book. Please, no general meal plans. I’m a good cook but I’m experiencing a mental block with creating new things right now so giving general suggestions is NOT going to help, LOL! I need real recipes.

Question by Lola: What are the benefits of being a Vegetarian?
Recently, I’ve been thinking about making the commitment to be a vegetarian, but I don’t know how or where to get support. Turning to my family is not an option because they are all meat-eaters to the core.

What are the benefits of being a vegetarian and what are the rules? Why do people make the commitment and how can I start?

Best answer:

Answer by kate bait
Live Longer by Eating Veggies

Want to have a better chance of maintaining a healthy body weight as you grow older? Become a vegetarian. It had been proven that vegetarians have much faster metabolisms than meateaters. In the inevitable slowing of the metabolism with age that results in weight gain, vegetarians have a big advantage.

Recently, a study was conducted that showed that vegetarians have resting metabolic rates (RMR) that are 11% higher than the RMR’s of nonvegetarians. A heightened RMR will allow a person to burn fat and calories a lot more quickly than average. On the other hand, a lower RMR will increase the risk of becoming overweight and developing serious health problems that are related to weight issues (like diabetes, heart disease, and strokes). So, by merely substituting every meat dish with a tasty vegetarian dish you can actually increase both your quality of life and your life span.
Good Reason To Eliminate Meat

Did you know that poultry producers and pig farmers routinely use arsenic as a growth stimulant for the animals? Strangely enough, federal law permits the usage of arsenic in commercial animal raising. The trick is that the government stipulates that commercial livestock farmers must stop adding arsenic to the animal feed at least 5 days before the slaughter so that arsenic residue levels will reach a legal level that is approved by the FDA (.55 parts per million).

The truth is, however, that several studies indicate that many livestock farmers do not adhere to these regulations. In fact, the USDA estimates that about 16% of the nation’s poultry supply contains levels of arsenic that are above the legal limit. Do your body a favor and skip those meat meals; treat your body to vegetarian entrees instead.

Vegetarian Diet Can Prevent Impotence

Real men are vegetarians! OK, maybe not all real men are vegetarians but one of the biggest benefits of a vegetarian diet for men is that it can help fight impotence. Believe it or not, it was been proven that a diet with a meat base that is high in fat can curb a man’s sexual appetite.
