Question by Peyton: If I become a vegetarian, would I suffer from protein-deficiency?
I am planning to be a vegetarian but the only obstacle here is protein. I know beans and soy can provide you with proteins but is it sufficient?
Best answer:
Answer by Jes
Yeah, it’s possible, but I doubt you’re going to end up with Kwashiorkor unless you really just don’t take your health seriosly.
Eat some falafel, a bean burrito, red beans and rice, or a PB&J, etc regularly, and you’ll be fine.
Talk to your doctor before you do any radical diet change.
Go to your library, and check out a few vegetarian cookbooks, and photocopy any recipes you try that you end up liking.

This one looks pretty easy:
Ingredients:
◦1 & 3/4 cups oat flour (you can make your own from oats in the blender or food processor) or substitute brown rice or quinoa flour for a gluten-free version.
◦1/4 teaspoon salt
◦1/2 teaspoon baking soda
◦1/2 cup sugar (sucanat or turbinado)
◦1/4 cup brown sugar (or substitute honey or agave nectar for all of the sugar)
◦1/3 cup oil (olive or canola)
◦1 Tablespoon ground flaxseeds (ground in coffee grinder)
◦1/4 cup milk (or soymilk)
◦1 teaspoon vanilla extract
◦1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or almonds)
◦3/4 cup chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 375° F.
Mix the salt, baking soda, and flour together.
Whisk the milk and ground flax seeds together in a small bowl. Add the sugar, oil and vanilla and whisk until well mixed.
Stir the wet ingredients into the flour mixture, adding the chocolate chips and nuts last.
Drop by the teaspoon onto an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
The recipe makes about 18 cookies. Double the recipe for a family.

Question by Popstarh8ter: What are some good resources for vegetarian substitutes and recipes?
I really would like to try becoming a vegetarian but so many of my “stand by” recipes include meat. I feel as if I don’t know how to cook without meat. What are some good resources (websites or books) for vegetarian substitutes for meat and eggs and some good recipes / cook books? Thanks.

I know it sounds grose, but tofu is just like meat except it is made by soy beans so it has no animal products in it. depending on how soft it is, you can make burgers, sloppy joes, barbeque, and several other meals. It has no flavor at all but if you were for instance to make barbeque, you could mix a little barbeque sauce with the tofu and let it set for about 5 minutes and it would taste like barbeque!

Question by bored: Easy vegetarian recipe for boca ground crumbles?
I have some boca ground crumbles and i need a easy delicious recipe to cook them with. Or you can just share what you cook with yours or put on yours. I was thinking about just heating them up with onions and peppers then eating it on a bun lol. How does that sound? Any ideas?
Best answer:
Answer by Christina
I like making tacos out of the Boca Crumbles and also what you said. Use it just like you would with regular meat. It will taste good no matter what.
:) Hope that helped.

Question by invader_hito: How can PETA endorse the eating of plants?
If Peta’s main issue with the eating of animals is that they live (among others) how can they condone the senseless slaughter and harvesting of defenseless plants to be eaten by people? Plants should have an equal chance for life that any animal deserves!
seeds for plants are like farms for animals. animals are exactly like plants in that they are a renewable resource.(dont think that im trying to lead into that im against respectable treatment of animals. im just trying to point out the flaw of reason)
Best answer:
Answer by its_me_twitch
that has been my view on vegetarianism for a long time why boycot “senseless” slaughter of animals to survive like man has done since the begining of time but its ok to slaughter living plants
