Question by chikka: how do you explain vegan/vegetarianism to others with out sounding preachy?
people will ask me why i am vegan. and i am just dying to tell them about what happens to that piece of animal muscle they have on their plate.but i also am very aware that the #1 thing omnivores dislike about vegans/vegetarians is that they try to convert them. as any one who felt strongly about a certain cause would want to do, i want to send the message out about the horrible reality that comes with the meat/dairy/egg industry that many many people don’t realize. but i dont want to give people the message that all veggies do is try and brain wash them. where is the happy medium?
(i mean if i was an environmentalist, i would want to explain to people what could be done to help the earth. its the same thing with wanting people to understand vegan/vegetarianism, you know?)
please no rude answers. only helpful ones.

Answer by whiskeyflirt politely explain that you have made the choice not to be involved in harming of animals and you based this decision on your own ethics and what you have read you are making the decision just as others make the decision to eat meat. you dont sound preachy if they ask you.

Question by Patti: What were some good meatless meals years ago?
I saw a recipe for a baked macaroni and cheese and it had a couple of eggs added to it to increase the protein. I think there must be a lot of other good meatless recipes that were handed down from the Depression-era. Do any of you have some memories of meatless meals that were served years ago?
My daughter used leftover pinto beans for refried beans, she mashed them with a potato masher, add some red hot sauce and melted a little cheese and made her own burritos, her favorite of all.

Answer by ♪Jackie Blue♪ I remember mom saying when they were kids, one supper they had beans and potatoes and the next supper they had potatoes and beans. Cornbread and beans was one meal that was common.
Question by dantean308: How hard is it to be a vegan?
I am a lacto-ovo vegetarian, and an aspiring vegan. How hard (and expensive) is it to become a vegan?
Best answer:
Answer by maggie Well, my household is a 3 person household, myself, my husband and my daugther (10 months old) and we spend roughly 300 dollars a month for food; that isn’t counting if we want to go out, but it’s rare that we go out for food. I shop at Whole Foods for organic grains and beans, I sometimes purchase organic tofu and stuff from Trader Joe’s, and I purchase hard-to-find vegan products for much cheaper than Whole Foods at this Japanese market near my house, they have really cheap tofu and soy products, udon, miso paste, and tons of great snacks etc. As for being vegan, I have not missed meat, but I do miss cheese a lot. I don’t miss eggs at all, not even a bit. I used to miss egg salad but I have found a vegan egg salad recipe that made it all much better. As for cheese, once in a blue moon I purchase a vegetarian organic tub of blue cheese and enjoy it. Nobody’s perfect. :)

Question by marnonyahoo: How do you make dinner for vegetarian and meat eating guests?
I never know what to cook when having some vegetarian and meat eating guest at the same time! I usually end up cooking two separate meals and hate to do that. What can I make that includes meat for the meat eaters and none for the vegetarian?
