ONE MEAT EATER’S EPIPHANY

Hello, My name is Brad and I am a meat eater.  In fact, I eat ALOT of meat; chickens, fish, sheep, cows, pigs, alligators… you name it, if it walks, fly’s, bleats, swims, jumps, moo’s or climbs I will eat it…. at least I would have before 4/2/2008 10:00 PM.

On that date I watched the video below, narrated by Alec Baldwin.  You think

Hostel or Saw were bad?  check out this video below, it’s got them beat AND it’s 100% real.

I think there are two types of people who will watch this short presentation;

The type who will watch and wish they had NOT.
The type will see it and be glad that they DID.

Which type will you be? Will you even be able to watch the whole video?

I find it queer that when I see videos and photos of animal atrocities in other countries, 5 pigs tied together and strung over the back of a moped as an example, I think wow… I wish we (Americans)could do something to help eliminate this type of insensitive barbarism from happening abroad.

It’s kind of a slap in the face when I realize that not only is it happening right here, right next to me, but that I am directly supporting and there for equally responsible for it.

after watching this video, I realized that I had to make a decision.  I was experiencing difficult moral dilemma;

  • On the one hand- do I support this type of industry, this suffering, this cruelty this downright hellish behavior?
  • On the other hand- what am I willing to do about it?

So, that is where I am at now.  Am I willing to completely change my life in order to support my beliefs.  Will I make changes that will certainly cause people to laugh at me and argue with me and expect me to be able to prove value system or change to their way… the normal way..  Am I willing to go to family reunions and have everyone be upset that I will not eat the turkey or the ham, "sure I would love some potatoes, ummm, I’m sorry is there meat or dairy in that gravy you just poured on my potatoes and ahh, gee I sure wish you wouldn’t have put butter in with the corn… could I just have some of those yams….. oh, butter in them too I see, thanks anyway, I brought a bowl of thanksgiving rice with me."  Then of course be expected and required to explain myself to everyone at any time, then when I do I will be considered preaching.

The answer is yes.  YES.  I am going to do it.  It is Wednesday evening right now, my girlfriend, cats, dog and meat filled refrigerator are all sound asleep with no idea as to the life changing turmoil and deep soul searching going on in the office right now.

My friends and Family are big on eating and big on meat.  It’s going to be fun.

Thank you for listening.  Please visit again and we will see where I am at, It’s going to be a long tough road ahead, I know.  I pledge to be honest in this and let you know how things turn out.

    Good for you…I am going to become vegan too, just as soon as I clean out my cupboards and freezer. I am too poor to throw it all away. Probably have it gone in just a few weeks. My biggest problem is where to eat out in a rural area. Wing-dings and fish fry are the fare here…whats a girl to eat. Thanks for your website. I will check back. paisley
